- What is Charitable Constructors? Charitable Constructors (CC)is a program to provide volunteer construction labor services to eligible candidates in Saint Henry parish, as designated by the St. Henry Social Action Committee (SHSAC), and to especially target those who have urgent needs and are financially unable to procure the needed services.
- How does it work? CC will do repairs for recipients that have been chosen through our selection committee. Candidates who meet the criterion stated in our mission will receive help as described in a plan of repair and in accordance with our abilities. Capacity to pay and possible sweat equity will be determined and negotiated with each recipient.
- How are candidates selected? St. Henry parishioners who wish to apply may fill out an application (available in the office or on-line) to be submitted to the SHSAC Charitable Constructors sub-committee. The sub-committee reviews applications, and follows an established decision process. When recipients are designated they will be contacted and repair plans and schedules will be discussed and agreed upon.
- Who are the members of Charitable Constructors? CC members consist of volunteers, some of whom are professionals in the construction industry, some non professionals with particular skills and some who simply have general abilities with a desire to help those in need. Occasionally skilled retirees, willing college & high school students interested in community service, and minimal paid professionals, such as electricians and plumbers are utilized. Those willing and capable to serve as foremen/project managers will assist in forming teams to address particular tasks. Safety and risk management controls will be in place and reviewed with all volunteers.
- How does CC get money to accomplish building projects? CC funding comes from grants, churches, corporations, individuals, special events, donations of materials, and any amount that the recipient can afford to pay towards their project.
- How can I help? CC is always looking for people who can give of their time, talent and treasure to help those in need; everything from working on a construction site to serving on a committee. Donations of cash and building materials are greatly appreciated.
